Janete

Janete is a Brazilian comedy short directed by Rebecca Cerqueira. The film follows Cíntia, a 35-year-old woman who works from home and lives alone, sharing her daily life only with Janete, her robot vacuum cleaner. Comfortable within the predictable rhythm of her home, Cíntia is suddenly forced to readjust when she returns to in-person work, confronting the exhaustion, awkwardness, and unexpected possibilities of a routine once again filled with human interaction.

Blending humor with an intimate look at contemporary loneliness and changing work habits, Janete explores the contrast between isolation and social connection, and the challenge of adapting when familiar routines are disrupted. The film has received recognition at several Brazilian festivals, including the Distribution Award at the 36th São Paulo International Short Film Festival, Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress at FLUAR, an Honorable Mention at FESTICINI, and Best Fiction and Best Art at the Tainha Dourada Film Festival.
