The documentary La Història Desconeguda, a production that pays tribute to 100 years of rugby history in Catalonia, combines archive images, animations and interviews with an innovative and close approach. The documentary portrays the most emblematic moments of rugby in Catalonia, from its beginnings in Sant Boi de Llobregat to its consolidation as a sport of identity and culture.

In 1921, Baldiri Aleu returned to Sant Boi de Llobregat after spending time in Toulouse carrying an unusual ball under his arm. It was not the familiar round football, but an oval rugby ball. This seemingly insignificant gesture marked the beginning of a different sport that would spend the next century fighting against the odds to find its place in society.

Rugby took root most strongly in Catalonia, where it quietly became intertwined with the region's history and its relationship with the Spanish state.

The Unknown Story explores the evolution of rugby in Catalonia from a fresh perspective. By following the preparations of the Catalan national team and elite players before key matches, the documentary unfolds without the need for a traditional narrator. Powerful match footage is interwoven with the insights of historians, sociologists, former players, and other experts, while animated recreations bring to life historical moments for which no visual records exist.

Across its 60-minute running time, the film presents a unique historical portrait in which sport becomes the lens through which a century of Catalan history is explored. Created to commemorate the centenary of the Catalan Rugby Federation, the documentary travels between past and present, offering audiences the opportunity to discover a sport deeply connected to the major events that shaped twentieth-century Catalonia. At the same time, it explores the values, spirit, and distinctive character that make rugby one of the world's most demanding, captivating, and enduring sports.
