A village in the São Paulo neighborhood of Santa Cecília becomes the center of a conflict between a real estate developer and a pair of activists fighting against property speculation, just as a series of mysterious disappearances of women begins to unfold in the area. One man appears to be connected both to the disappearances and to the village, where the discovery of a statue by a renowned Italo-Brazilian sculptor makes the situation even more complicated.

About the film

Set in a small village in the Santa Cecília district of São Paulo, this Brazilian drama-comedy explores the clash between community life and the pressures of urban redevelopment. As real estate interests move in, local activists struggle to protect the neighborhood from speculation and displacement, turning the village into the center of an increasingly tense social conflict.

At the same time, a series of mysterious disappearances of women begins to unsettle the community. As rumors spread and suspicions grow, the investigation reveals unexpected links between the missing women, the village itself, and a man whose presence seems connected to both. The mystery deepens with every new discovery, blurring the line between coincidence and conspiracy.

The situation becomes even more complex when a lost statue by a renowned Italo-Brazilian sculptor is discovered in the area. Blending humor, suspense, and social commentary, the film offers a compelling portrait of a community fighting to preserve its identity while confronting hidden secrets buried beneath the surface. Through its mix of drama and comedy, the story reflects on memory, belonging, and the human cost of progress.

About the director

Kico Santos is a Brazilian screenwriter, director, and photographer based in São Paulo. A trained filmmaker, he has worked in audiovisual production since 2006 through Prompt Filmes, directing documentaries, institutional productions, and advertising projects. Throughout his career, he has developed a distinctive cinematic approach that combines social observation, human stories, and a strong visual sensibility rooted in everyday life.

Among his most notable initiatives is the Street Cinema project, a series of short documentaries dedicated to the city of São Paulo. Through these films, Santos explores the richness of ordinary experiences and the complexity of human nature, weaving together documentary narratives that highlight the voices, struggles, and identities often overlooked in contemporary urban life. His work consistently demonstrates a commitment to social engagement and cultural memory.

Currently a PhD candidate at the Methodist University of São Paulo, Santos is conducting research in Humanitarian and Peace Journalism, with a particular focus on communicating the Climate Emergency.
