One more year is the particular portrait of the painter Paco Bernal, decided in spite of the adversities that are presented and their different abilities, to celebrate his 54th birthday party. Paco Bernal has one more chromosome in PAR 21 that makes him a unique individual, with a unique appearance, personality and abilities. And the film proposes to analyze: what makes us different? Our qualities or our physical trait?
One More Year is an intimate and moving portrait of painter Paco Bernal, a man who defies convention and adversity to celebrate life on his own terms. As he approaches his 54th birthday, Paco’s unwavering determination to live fully becomes the emotional core of the film. Born with an extra chromosome in pair 21, a condition associated with Down syndrome, Paco’s story is not framed by limitation, but by resilience, creativity, and the joy he finds in expressing himself through art.
Through Paco’s unique personality, expressive artworks, and everyday moments, the film gently challenges the audience to rethink the meaning of difference. Is it our physical appearance that sets us apart, or the inner qualities that define who we truly are? About the director:
Juli Suárez is a filmmaker. Producer and screenwriter. He studied audiovisual communication and creative documentary film at the ERAM-University of Girona. And he has completed his audiovisual training in different referential seminars with Abbas Kiarostami, Patricio Guzmán, Asghar Farhadi and Isabel Coixet. He is the founder of the production company LGC Films, based in Banyoles (Spain).
