A theater group for people with disabilities is currently rehearsing in preparation for their evaluation day. Two hours before the review, they realize that the actor playing the shepherd character hasn't shown up. Maysam makes an effort to take on the role of the shepherd instead

Director Statement

In the short film The Shepherd, ten actors with disabilities portray the central characters. We dedicated nearly a year to rehearsals, creating a process that allowed the cast to build confidence, develop their performances, and shape the film together.

Throughout that year, my own perspective as the writer and director changed profoundly. Working closely with the actors challenged many of my previous assumptions and helped me understand the disabled community with greater sensitivity, respect, and awareness.

With this film, I wanted to share that transformation with the audience. The Shepherd invites viewers to look beyond disability and see each character as a complete human being—with dreams, fears, dignity, humor, and the need to be understood. My hope is that the film can encourage a more open and empathetic way of seeing people whose stories are too often ignored or misunderstood.
