This film looks at vital natural aspects of life on earth – Light, Land and Water, through the prism of artistic creativity. It features the work of three contemporary artists: Filippo Sciascia, Nii Obodai, and Nakajima Hiroyuki, each born on a different continent.

About the film

Directed by Martin Cooper, this documentary explores three fundamental elements that shape life on Earth — Light, Land and Water — through the lens of artistic creativity. The film considers how these essential forces of the natural world can be observed, interpreted and transformed through contemporary art.

The documentary features three artists from three different continents: Filippo Sciascia, Nii Obodai and Nakajima Hiroyuki. Through their distinctive artistic practices and perspectives, the film creates a dialogue between nature, place and creative expression, revealing different ways in which art can deepen our relationship with the world around us.

 
 
 

About the Director

Having initially trained at the BBC, Martin Cooper worked for over 30 years as a documentary editor within the British television industry.
He worked on numerous films & TV series several of which won BAFTA nominations and RTS awards.

In 2002 he won a Royal Television Society Award for Best Documentary Editor. Martin was subsequently invited to be a judge on the Arts panel, for the prestigious Grierson Documentary Awards in London.

In 2018 Martin directed his first feature documentary: ‘Traces of The Soul’ (86mins). This was an exploration of contemporary calligraphy across the globe. This film won ‘First Prize’ both the Alexandre Trauner ART/Film Festival (2019) and ‘Best Contemporary Art Film’ & ‘ Most Beautiful Film’ at the Master of Art Film Festival in Bulgaria. It also won ‘Best First Feature’ award at Washington DC International Film Festival, and is currently showing on Amazon Prime and GuideDoc.

‘History, Mystery & Odyssey’ (91mins) 2023, was Martin’s second feature as a director. It looked at the life and work of 6 renowned independent animators all living and working in Portland, Oregon. This film also won numerous awards and was screened in Ottawa, France, Palm Springs & Portland (USA), Australia, Hungary, Bulgaria and the UK. It is currently streaming on GuideDoc.

‘e A R T h w o r k s’ (65mins) 2026, is Martin’s third feature documentary. It explores aspects of our increasingly fragile planet – specifically LIGHT, LAND and WATER ,through the work of three artists; Filippo Sciascia, Nii Obodai & Nakajima Hiroyuki, each born in a different continent.
