Upcoming Summer Screenings: Dalmatia Film FestivalCroatia

Sutivan, Solin, Pirovac | ☀️ Summer 2025

In addition, Home has been selected for Dalmatia Film Festival, with enchanting open-air screenings planned in the coastal towns of Sutivan, Solin, and Pirovac in Croatia. Held under the summer skies by the sea, this festival offers a unique blend of cinema and atmosphere, ideal for powerful films like Home that thrive in immersive settings.

A Story That Demands to Be Told

Home is based on a shocking true story — a tragic murder in Iran that still haunts those who knew the victim. The film is dedicated to the memory of Babak, a friend of the director, who was murdered by his parents in a chilling act of so-called “honor” killing. The same couple had previously confessed to the murder of their daughter and son-in-law under similar justifications, rooted in extremist moral beliefs. While most of Babak’s remains were found, his head was never recovered — a brutal reminder of the inhumanity that can hide behind closed doors.

Synopsis:

An elderly couple prepares to attend their young granddaughter’s birthday party while struggling to hide a horrific secret from the rest of their family…

Director’s Statement – Sara Mokhavat:

“The darkest aspect of human nature is our capacity for cruelty, violence, and destruction. Through art, we can confront this darkness — not to glorify it, but to understand and challenge it.
This film is a mirror to those shadows, and I hope it provokes introspection and empathy in equal measure.”

Stay tuned as Home continues its path through the festival circuit — a cinematic experience that not only moves the heart, but raises critical questions about justice, family, and silence.
